A day in RED(as-our-sunburn)BAY

OKAY guys it's our turn to rock the blog! Celine and Robyn reporting from the always sunny and hot Andros Island! To start out the day, we went to a dock down in Red Bay where local sponge fishermen were out and about. Then we traveled down the road to Amelia Marshall's house. This island's midwife/medicine woman has delivered 85% of the island's children! That's a lot of babies! She shared many stories with us and showed us all of the awards that she has received throughout the years. After that, we went over to Otis the sponge fisherman's house where we all bought sponges super cheap; Chris got the best deal! Then we went to world renowned woodcarver Henry Wallace's house. He shared with us his story ,including the process in which his work ended up being displayed in the Smithsonian, and that he knew Bob Marley four years before he died...Yeah Mon'! Jumping back on the bus we headed over to Nicolls Town where we anxiously awaited our lunch of fried conch. After what seemed like forever the food arrived, and was VERY delicious! With full stomachs we got back on the bus and ventured over to Uncle Charlie's Blue Hole. Bursting with excitement, Celine was the first to make the eight foot dive. Everyone enjoyed the fresh water, only to find out that we were swimming with a dead guy...WHAT!?! The blue hole was named after a diver who died trying to explore this blue hole one last time. The long day's history lesson concluded with visiting some Bahamian shops, chillin down with ice cream cones, and a basket weaving session. Robyn and Justin can probably find a use for their baskets, whereas the rest of us.........just forget it! Day number 4 has been amazing! We miss everyone! This is Beans and Brain saying.....keep building snowmen for our sandcastles! =D (Pictures are still hard to upload..but we'll keep trying)

Emma has no one to argue with. We are taking her Birthday shopping tomorrow. Hopefully she can find her new bike. I will check back tomorrow. Be careful and we luv and miss you lots.

  3. Hi Shannon!

I was so excited to read today's blog before turning off the computer for the night. It sounds like you had another great day. I look forward to seeing picture online and from your cameras.
Today Maggie and I went hiking at Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park and Reid State Park. "Our" part of Reid was blocked off so no mica. We saw Jim and Jasmine (greyhound and owner) again. We stopped in Mangy Moose and Cool as a Moose where Maggie enjoy the attention. She is one exhausted dog. Tomorrow - she's going to daycare, I'm going to Bean, Whoopie, Orr's and Bailey Islands. Lobster is on the menu. How was the conch?

I hope you are having a great time, your weather sounds beautiful. Stay sun-burn free and well hydrated. I love you, bug! xoxo

  8. Hi Mitchell...A great day of history lessons from the local residents. I'm sure they had alot of interesting stories to share. Can't wait to see the pictures (hint hint-use up all the film!). Super Weems bowled a 733 series Monday night with a 276 high game; I don't know where he gets his skill from. The Buffalo News printed the 2011 baseball preview with props to the NC program. Miss you lots! SUNSCREEN and WATER are your friends! :)

  14. Hi Shannon!

It was refreshing to see the pictures after a dreary, overcast day with light rain in Maine. Maggie is in daycare and I went to Whoopie, Bean and Bailey Island. I'm off to have a lobster dinner ($18) before picking her up.

Take all the pictures you can, use sunscreen and drink plenty of water. I'm looking forward to seeing you Saturday night - enjoy this fantastic experience!!!

    Love, Mom :)

  18. Never a dull moment when Beans and Brain are together! Awesome blog! I am biased it's true but this seems to have been your most academic day so far...lots of history and island facts... and I am guessing you got some fun in there too??

Bread Day was not the same. In fact I was there for about two hours and left. I cried without you, but I am better now. Milo kept me hopping...

We all miss you and are saving cookies, pupakalova and blessed bread for you. I can't say it will be as exciting as fried conch but it is yummy indeed.

    Love, your momma
